The Gentle Art

What a FANTASTIC surprise I received in the mail today - TWO HUNDRED TWO skeins of embroidery floss from The Gentle Art. Ah! Check out this rainbow:

Gorgeous, right? Six thread count, colorfast, and well... gorgeous! I'm a mad scientist in her laboratory, scheming up ideas. That's how I feel when I get my hands on such beautiful supplies anyway!

So here's what I'm thinking... I've been wanting to do some small embroidery projects geared toward baby. I found these 1930's fabrics the other day at Four Seasons Quilts (a most wonderful quilt shop here in the Twin Cities by the way).

And now I'm starting on a some little baby gift ideas...

Have a great weekend!

Fall Patterns in the Works

Hey there!

This last week I've been working on some new things for fall and trying out Weeks Dye Works embroidery floss. I'm digging it! The variegated effect that this hand dyed floss offers is right up my ally. I love the dimension it gives to my projects. Six strands is perfect, as I need the option to use just one strand on that little stuff. It knots up less than DMC, hardly at all really, and I like that the tones are slightly more muted... less "shiny" than DMC. The only trouble I've had is in making French knots. The knots seem to loosen up a little more than I would like. Other than that, fantastic!

Below are some of the great fall colors from Weeks. I love their names! - "Jack-O-Lantern", "Hot Rod", and "Cornbread".

How do you transfer the pattern onto your fabric? I use a water soluble fabric pen - every time. I place my fabric on top of a light box - couldn't live without it! - and trace. The pen comes up easily with a damp cloth when I'm done.

A little more of what I'll be finishing up this week...
And on that note... HAPPY SUMMER!

Weeks Dye Works

Hey All!

I'm trying out some new embroidery floss, and the flavor of the week is Weeks Dye Works. Here's the luscious and oh so generous color palette they provided me with!

How fun is that??!! So far I really like it. I do a lot of tiny, detailed stitching, and I like that this floss is made up of six strands. I can pull off just one little strand for all that itty-bitty stuff. I'm used to using DMC, and Weeks seems to knot up less. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the variegated options with Weeks. That color variety adds such dimension to stitchery, I think.

WHAT ABOUT YOU??!! What's your favorite embroidery floss? Shoot me an email, and tell me what you like best!

Here's what I'm working on with Weeks Dye Works...

Summer is in full swing so that means it's time for me to start thinking about fall!

And it's never too early to start thinking about Christmas... right...?? :)

Happy stitching!
