The Window Box is Complete!

Here it is! This is the one that I've been talking about lately, and it's done! Well, the top is done. It's the first quilt I'm going to have machine quilted. I've hand quilted all of my other projects so I'm really excited to see how this one turns out.

A closeup of those curtains. I experimented with a lot of different options, but I love how these pleated red curtains add dimension to the quilt.

And here's one of those cornerstones I was talking about yesterday - tiny and adorable. Our website will have this pattern for sale soon so check back often! www.blueberrybackroads.com

Ok so now what... onto the next project... I have a snowman idea in the works (go figure). I think I'll start on that today. You know, it's actually snowing outside (again - go figure) so snowmen may be just the thing. Happy quilting!

Cornerstones

Cornerstones... a great way to add some character to any quilt. I'm trying them out with my most recent wall hanging - geraniums and johnny jump ups. I found this nice tutorial from Janet Wickell that does a good job of explaining how to add cornerstones:
These little guys will finish at 3" square, and they'll tie the embroidery from the quilt into the borders. Here they are so far!
Happy quilting!

Ann's Quilt Cottage

Another great stop in my hometown of Bemidji is Ann's Quilt Cottage. I love their porch with the 1930's fabrics. And they have a whole room dedicated to baby quilts. I hope you get a chance to stop by!

It was a quick trip up north for me this time. These trips always fly by. I'm headed back to Minneapolis this morning, loaded down with fabric and more ideas! I've got so many things in the works, time to start tying them all together. Happy sewing!

Sadie Rae's

Just west of Bemidji is Sadie Rae's Quilt Shop, the newest quilt shop in my hometown. And it's awesome! Shelly and the ladies at Sadie Rae's have filled the shop with gorgeous fabrics and walls full of beautiful samples. I'll have a trunk show there through the rest of the month so if you're up in that neck of the woods, definitely stop by and check it out!
Marie's Minis. Aren't these amazing?!

Shelly does such a nice job with her displays. I love the old fashioned props. I hope you get a chance to check out this quilt shop; it's a must see!!

Bemidji

I'm spending a few days at home - Bemidji, Minnesota! Hanging out with my mom who is helping me IMMENSELY as we prepare for Market in Pittsburgh. My mom owns Red Button Quilt Company and is a super talented designer. Her quilt room is packed to the rafters with gorgeous fabrics so coming home means fabric shopping for me!

I've been working on lots of new things, one of which is this geranium window box stitchery. Today we picked out the border fabrics. Beautiful reds!

Here's a closeup of those geraniums and johnny jump ups. I love embroidery. Can you tell? I find it so relaxing and just amazing how with needle and thread, you can recreate everything from Christmas trees to geraniums.

Let me know what you're creating with needle and thread. I'd love to hear from you.

Happy stitching!!

April Snow

Well, it snowed last night so that got me thinking about... what else... snowmen!

My very talented mom owns Red Button Quilt Company and designs beautiful quilting patterns herself. She and I are teaming up to work on a quilt together! I'll be working on the embroidery piece, and she's going to tie it all together with some awesome piecing. Wintertime is the theme, and here's one of those little snowmen that I've been working on this morning.
I'll send more snippets of this quilt as it starts to come together. The embroidery piece is step one, so there will be many more to come!
